Objective:

Provides diagnosis, treatment, consultation, and follow-up for patients on the palliative care service under the supervision of a physician.

|

30 hours continuing education credits every two years.

|
Conducts or participates in educational offerings to enhance performance and professional competency of self and others.

|
Promotes the advancement of nursing practice through participation in a professional nursing organization and mentoring staff from novice to expert.

Provides patient/family education regarding specific disease process and treatment regimens for self management.
|

Refers patients to Physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment.
|

Core
|
Recommends and orders other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.

Initiates admission in collaboration with attending physician.

Discusses and facilitates communication of patient with Physician and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plan. Utilizes the nursing process as part of plan development.

Records physical findings, and formulates plan and prognosis, based on patient's condition. Documents per protocol and standards outlined by

Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs.

Performs physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines and instructions of Physician.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

Education and/or Experience
|
|
Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
|
|
Language Skills
|
|
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
|
|
Mathematical Skills
|
|
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
|
|
Reasoning Ability
|
|
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
